Disable Modern Warfare 2 Music

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best first person shooter games ever. However, there is some aspects of the game that could use some work. One of the things that seems to be "missing" from the game is the ability to adjust the volume of the game's background music. This gets annoying if you are actually trying to hear the enemy approaching in the distance, hear your teammates communicate, or even after playing for a long time. If you have the PC version of the game, you can manually turn off the music for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Disclaimer: Perform these actions at your own risk. Worst case is that you would have to reinstall the game to make it work again. If you have problems after performing the steps listed below, you can get steam to replace the music files for you. Right-click the game name in Steam's My Games list, click "Local Files", then select "Verify Integrity of Game Files".

Locate Game Install Folder:

The first step is to locate the folder where the game is installed. Since this game is installed in Steam, the game files are in a subdirectory in the steam folder. The following address is where the game is on my computer, yours would be different if you installed the game to a custom location or you hard drive has a different drive letter.

Open this address in Windows Explorer:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\

Rename Music Folder:

Finally, rename the "miles" folder to anything you want. It is probably best to rename it to something that lets you know what it is, just in case you want to change it back. For example I added "---soundoff" to the name so now it says, "miles---soundoff".
